When It Rains, Love Still Shines

Because in Baguio, a little drizzle shouldn’t dampen your “I do.”

Ah, Baguio — where the air is cool, the pine trees stand tall like nature’s cathedral, and the views are so breathtaking they deserve their own love song. It’s the kind of place that makes couples swoon at the thought of exchanging vows under open skies. But here’s the thing about this mountain paradise: the weather can be as moody as a telenovela plot twist.

Yes, the rainy season usually runs from late May to October, but Baguio doesn’t always read the memo. =) One minute you’re bathed in golden sunlight, the next you’re wrapped in a romantic mist… or ducking under cover as raindrops start to fall — even in December or March. But that’s part of the city’s magic: it keeps you on your toes, and sometimes, in love, a little unpredictability is exactly what makes the story better.

So, if your dream wedding involves a Baguio garden, forest clearing, or panoramic rooftop, fear not. With a dash of foresight (and maybe an aesthetic umbrella), you can keep the romance intact no matter what the skies are up to. Here’s your happily-ever-after survival kit for your big day, mountain-style:

1. Timing is Everything — But Love Has the Final Say

If you want the safest bet for sunshine, pick a month outside the rainy season. But we know — love doesn’t always check the weather app before setting a date. Maybe your anniversary is in August, or your relatives from Canada are only free in September. In that case, aim for a morning ceremony, when Baguio skies are often at their clearest. Plus, that early light? Wedding photographers call it “pure magic hour” for a reason. Just keep in mind, while mornings usually have better weather, the clouds sometimes still like to surprise us.

2. Always Have a Plan B That Can Make up for Plan A

Choose a venue that gives you the best of both worlds — a garden lawn and an indoor hall. This way, if rain turns up uninvited, the celebration can simply move inside with a quick break and some adjustments. Bonus points if your “Plan B” still has a view of the outdoors through big picture windows.

3. Bring the Garden Indoors (No Mud Required)

If you’re getting married during rain-prone months, your stylist can create an indoor scene that feels like you’re still outside. Think lush floral runners, draped greenery, and airy layouts. Add floor-to-ceiling glass panels or open verandas, and you can watch the rain from a cozy, dry perch — like your own private greenhouse romance.

4. Umbrellas: Chic in Photos, Handy in Practice

Matching umbrellas in white, clear, or your wedding palette can make even a drizzle feel like part of the theme. They’re perfect for guiding guests between spaces without soaking their outfits. But let’s be real —  they’re a transition tool, not an all-day solution. No one wants to juggle a bouquet, a wine glass, and an umbrella.

5. Tent Talk: The Fairy Light Fantasy

Clear dome tents under a canopy of twinkling lights can feel like stepping into a snow globe — dreamy, intimate, and photo-ready. They’re perfect for light rain or shielding from the sun. But for a full-on downpour with wind? Even the prettiest tent can’t keep puddles from creeping in. Consider them part of your mood board, but not your only line of defense.

6. Forecast Check: Twice, Maybe Thrice

A weather app won’t give you a pinky swear, but it can help you make smart, last-minute calls. If the forecast shows a 70% chance of rain, maybe set up your reception tables indoors early or stash umbrellas at the door. In Baguio, being over-prepared is just good romance insurance.

7. Invoke Your Chosen Weather Gods

Pray, manifest, send all the good vibes — whatever your style, a little ritual never hurts. Some couples offer eggs to a convent (a charming Filipino tradition), while others just send up a quiet wish to the universe. Will it guarantee sunshine? No. But it might give you a beautiful story to tell. Or the peace of mind that you did everything in your power. :)

8. Trust the People Who’ve Seen It All

When suppliers mention a venue’s limitations or what might happen because it's the rainy season, they’re not being negative—they’re being honest and practical. Couples with a “dream wedding vibe” in mind might not always see these possibilities, but having a solid backup plan means you’ll still have a beautiful and memorable day, no matter what.

Your wedding team has seen it all — mist, drizzle, downpour, you name it. They know how to pivot quickly. Rain might mean re-styling on the fly: centerpieces moved, backdrops adjusted, LED walls protected. Some visual changes are inevitable, but your vendors will work their magic. Trust their advice — they’ll give you the final say, but being open and flexible will help them create the best possible outcome for you.

9. Make the Call Together — and Then Just Soak It In (Figuratively… or Not)

If and when the clouds roll in, lock eyes with your almost-spouse and remember why you’re here. One of my favorite Baguio rainy wedding stories? A former couple who, towards the end of their reception program in the woods, laughed and posed for photos under the rain as we escorted guests indoors. In their social media post, they still thanked God for the rain—focusing not on the weather, but on how beautifully everything came together. Watching them, I knew this couple could—and would—weather any storm together. (Hi,Julie and Kaku!) The photos? Absolute magic. The memories? Even better.

Because here’s the thing — you can’t control the weather, but you can decide how to feel about it. And often, the best wedding memories are the ones you didn’t script.

The bottom line: Outdoor weddings — whether in a garden, by the beach, or on a mountainside — are unforgettable. But they do come with risks. Know them. Accept them. And plan accordingly.

As the Desiderata says: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

When it rains, it pours… but love? Love always finds a way to shine through.
